Today's electrical needs may require panel upgrading.  As scary as it may seem this is not uncommon at all.  With all the electrical devices we use today and to bring your home up to current codes it may be necessary.  Things like car chargers and solar require these upgrades.  New homes are now using 200 amps and some are using as much as 400 amps.
